Story
The Susie G. Gibson Legacy Inc.
The Susie G. Gibson Legacy Inc. was founded in 2018, born from a shared commitment to honor and preserve the rich history of Susie G. Gibson and the institution that bore her name. A small group of dedicated alumni and community members gathered at the Bedford Museum to reflect on the significance of Susie G. Gibson High School in the educational and cultural life of Bedford’s Black community. What began as a conversation soon evolved into a purposeful movement: to document, celebrate, and preserve the stories, achievements, and enduring legacy of the school and its namesake for generations to come.
This isn’t just about nostalgia, it’s about cultural preservation, educational equity, and civic pride. The name Susie G. Gibson represents community leadership, academic excellence, and resilience in the face of segregation and inequality.
Our Vision & Mission
Vision: To uphold the high standards of good character, morality, academic excellence, and personal achievements set by Mrs. Susie G. Gibson and those who worked with and supported her to commemorate her legacy, including the historical impact of Susie G Gibson High School.
Mission: To continue educating generations through the Legacy of Susie G Gibson.
Our story continues every time a memory is shared, a voice is recorded, or a young person learns the name Susie G. Gibson for the first time.
